MPS-Offers-Comprehensive-Power-Management-Solutions-In-Wake-Of-Enpirion's-End-of_Life-Product-Line

Intel® has issued a notice announcing the discontinuation of Intel® Enpirion’s® Power Solutions product line. Their power management devices serve to power FPGAs, SoCs, CPUs, ASICs, and other semiconductor devices. Luckily, Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) has a broad power solutions portfolio that can aid the transition from Intel Enpirion’s EOL products.

What should I look for in a replacement?

An optimal power management solution will ensure your device’s electrical requirements are properly met. When looking for a replacement, be sure that the input voltage range and maximum output current match or are close to one another. Pin-to-pin compatibility between power solutions will be rare, so developers should expect a board redesign.

How can I know which MPS parts match up best with Intel’s FPGAs and SoCs?

MPS has a comprehensive cross reference guide to aid developers in finding a high efficiency, compact, ultra-fast power solution to suit their needs. Additionally, MPS has power tree reference designs for Agilex, Cyclone 10, and MAX 10 FPGAs as well as Stratix 10, Arria 10, and Cyclone V FPGAs and SoCs.

What are important considerations when choosing an MPS Power Module?

While many of MPS’ power solutions provide a compact footprint, not all of MPS’ parts are smaller than Enpirion’s but in scenarios of size discrepancy, MPS components tend to have higher efficiency. Generally, MPS solutions are more compact and efficient than their counterparts. A final consideration to note is that not all MPS alternatives are automotive-grade. This can be an important factor if automotive-grade components are necessary for end applications.
