With the introduction of their new “Barbie Hello Dreamhouse”, Mattel is doubling down on its theme of connected toys at this year’s Toy Fair. The new connected toy gives the namesake doll her very own internet connected smart-home that can set date triggered events and accept voice commands.

From controlling the lights to operating the house’s elevator, the house’s functions will all be able to be operated by a child’s voice. The companion app will allow the toy to connect to your actual home’s internet and provide other miscellaneous controls.

However, all this lighthearted automation won’t come cheap, the “Hello Barbie Dreamhouse” will be priced at $299 when it hits store shelves this fall. This along with Barbie’s very own drone/hoverboard, America’s most famous doll is hopping onto the IoT bandwagon faster than most early adopters.

Symmetry Electronics recently announced support for Lattice Semiconductor’s ECP5-5G product family that enables seamless connectivity to ASICs and ASSPs in a wide array of applications including cameras, displays, gaming platforms, small cells and low-end routers. So whether you’re jumping onto the wave of connected toys or designing products for a life size smart home, Symmetry and Lattice have numerous resources including software, device samples, soft IP and hardware boards at the ready and are available upon request.
